Mechanical engineering technicians and draftspeople carry out and assist with technical support functions in mechanical engineering research, design, manufacture, operations and maintenance of machines, mechanical installations and facilities. They work closely with mechanical engineers, technologists and associates in all stages of planning, design, maintenance and production. Conducts tests of mechanical systems, collects and analyses data, and assembles and installs mechanical assemblies in support of mechanical engineers and engineering technologists.

Job Tasks:

• Assists mechanical engineers in designing mechanical equipment and plant machinery.
• Estimate material quantities, costs and machine requirements.
• Providing technical assistance in research on and development of machines and mechanical installations, facilities and components or testing prototypes.
• Designing and preparing layouts of machines and mechanical installations, facilities and components according to the specifications given.
• Working under direction of engineering and scientific staff to develop and test machinery and equipment.
